McCord (David) is born in New York City.

David McCord grows up in New Jersey and Oregon, comes to Boston to attend Harvard College and remains for the rest of his life. He becomes a writer and a poet, especially of children’s verse, and receives honorary degrees from more than 20 universities. After retiring in 1963, he lives at the Harvard Club in Boston at 374 Commonwealth Avenue. McCord dies in Boston at age 99 on April 13, 1997.
